UNOPS begins the implementation of projects to restore electricity supply to 1,200 vital service facilities in all governorates of the Republic

Within the Yemen Emergency Electricity Access Project, UNOPS started preparations for the implementation of 1,200 solar energy projects for health and educational facilities and for wells in all governorates of the Republic with funding from the World Bank Group’s International Development Association (IDA) at a total cost amounted to 20 million USD.

The sub-project is targeting the rehabilitation of the electricity supply in health centers, schools and wells through the supply and installation of solar energy systems in each facility, while taking into consideration the systems size difference from one facility to another so as to meet the actual needs. Work will continue throughout the project period to reach the envisaged number and the quality required to alleviate the people suffering and the impact of electricity unavailability.

The Yemen Emergency Electricity Access Project, funded by the World Bank through a US$ 50 million grant from IDA, aims to improve accessibility to electricity in rural and peri-urban areas of the Republic of Yemen. The project focuses on financing the off-grid solar energy systems by providing electricity to 200,000 households and the restoration of electricity supply to 1,200 vital service facilities in all governorates of the Republic.
