The UNOPS Representative Met the Governor of Abyan



During the coordination meeting- Abyan / UNOPS


The representative of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), Eng. Mueen Almas, met the Governor of Abyan, General Abu Bakr Hussein, as part of the coordination meetings to discuss the implementation of the Yemen Integrated Urban Services Emergency Project, funded by the World Bank and implementing by UNOPS.

During the meeting, Abu Bakr said that “The World Bank and UNOPS are playing a key role in providing services and financial support for development and infrastructure projects. And he pointed out that the local authority would provide all required support and work in partnership with UNOPS”.


Abu Bakr added “Zinjibar is one of the effected cities by the conflicts in 2011 and 2015, and it needs support in different domains and reactivate the most important services such as sanitation, road repair and lighting as well as in health”.


The three- year project aims to support 1.4 million Yemenis: 600,000 Yemenis with access to rehabilitated water and sanitation services, rehabilitate 400 kilometers of urban roads, restore 60,000 megawatt hours of energy generation, and create 1.5 million days of skilled and non-skilled employment – around half of them women – and will include 19 cities from across the country.
